README for tzdata ----------------- This package contains data required for the implementation of standard local time for many representative locations around the globe. Two different versions are provided: - The "posix" version is based on the Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). - The "right" version is based on the International Atomic Time (TAI), and it includes the leap seconds. Most systems have their hardware clock set either to UTC, or to a timezone with a fixed difference with UTC. Therefore the default version provided by this package is the "posix" one. The TZDIR environment variable, when used together with the TZ one, forces the system to use one of the two versions. Examples: - TZDIR=/usr/share/zoneinfo/posix TZ=Europe/Paris on a system with hardware clock set to UTC. - TZDIR=/usr/share/zoneinfo/right TZ=Europe/Paris on a system with hardware clock set to TAI. -- Aurelien Jarno <aurel32@debian.org> Sat, 06 Sep 2008 12:27:09 +0200
